I saw Alice in Wonderland with my 11 year old son and niece. They both said they liked it and it held my sons attention for the most part (no excessive trips to the washroom). I enjoyed the visuals and we didn’t even see it in 3D, but the storyline was uninteresting to me.
The movie was a continuation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Alice is now 19 years old and trying to dodge answering a proposal for marriage when she once again falls down the rabbit hole. She, of course has no recollection that this happened to her as a child, other than a reoccuring dream of Wonderland and it’s strange characters. The question is posed to her, in Wonderland -‘Are you the real Alice?’ Ironically, I thought that Mia Wasikowska was a casting mistake. I didn’t enjoy her deadpan acting and would have liked to see someone more vibrant. Maybe, true to the form of the Director Tim Burton she was suppose to act and look like a corpse. I did enjoy all the other characters in Wonderland or Underland as Alice accidentally pronounces it. Loved Helena Bonham Carters character the Queen of Hearts and her freakishly large head and Johnny Depp as the mad hatter. He would drift into crazy mode from time to time and ultimately had to be snapped out of it. Anne Hathaway with her calm, fluid motions, played a convincing White Princess. The voices for The Chesire Cat and the Caterpillar, were perfect along with the costume design. I would say go see it to enjoy the zany characters and the visuals on a big screen. 7/10 says IGEM
