Date Night: Action-Comedy Starring Steve Carell, Tina Fey, James Franco, Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg

See this movie not for the action, or romance but for the comedy. It was too funny! I loved watching Tina Fey and Steve Carell carry the movie with their hilarious comedic volleying. It made me bypass the other shortcomings, like a silly plot. I won’t even get into the storyline, other than it is about a suburban couple getting caught up in an case of mistaken identity gone wild. Also starring in Date Night were the dysfunctional couple, Mila Kunis (a stripper)and James Franco(a thief). Their performance was fun to watch. Then there was too slick- too shirtless Mark Wahlberg. His character was the antithesis to the Carell character, Phil Foster. It was hilarious watching Carell squirm with jealousy in reaction to his wife’s flirting. The lead actors definitely made the movie work all the way to the end, and I mean to the end. Stay and watch the credits with the improvised outtakes.

Alice In Wonderland –Starring Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway

I saw Alice in Wonderland with my 11 year old son and niece. They both said they liked it and it held my sons attention for the most part (no excessive trips to the washroom). I enjoyed the visuals and we didn’t even see it in 3D, but the storyline was uninteresting to me.

Whip it_ON DVD_Directed By Drew Barrymore_Starring Ellen Page

This movie is for all you aspiring females who have need to break free of the titles put on you before you were able to honestly think and make decisions about your future for yourselves.  This movie is definatley a "chick flick" so for you men who are trying to impress your significant other or fathers/mothers having a daughters night, this movie is it.  Bliss Cavendar nicknamed Babe Ruthless finally finds her place when she stumbles into her adventure to check out a roller derby in Austin Texas.  Well this event is the revival of Skinny Minnie Miller and the girls (I am so dating myself/ google her).  She decides this is what she wants to do roller derby but mom and pops aren't having it.  Well the movie does have a happy ending after all; it's fun and silly and heart warming and makes a good mother daughter movie.  Best of all Drew Barrymore doesn't cast herself as the star she takes the back seat and gives someone&

DJ Hero_Video Game 360 console

Sorry folks this one has been a long time coming, we got the game the day it came out and we needed to get a thorough testing, we don't blog to increase Christmas sales.  Former DJ talking here; it's sick.  The game actually got some kids interested in real live DJing; it teaches the actual concept of cross fading, effects, left hand or right hand scratching.  The music is what impressed me the mixes are crazy and it actually has some real classic Funk, R and B mixed with ummm everything, it also has a guitar mode. Verdict?  Hip Hop heads finally got one that they can call a classic buy it, it's great at parties, if you like Djing, if you want to learn how and oh yeah if you are an old school Hip Hop head you'll love the tracks.  11 out 10 says IGEM (Is that Possible? today it is) well done on the design you did your research.

Ong Bak 2_ON DVD_Tony Jaa

This martial arts movie was filmed in Thailand so either turn on the english translation on your PC or DVD; if not get ready to read subtitles.  If martial arts movies is your thing this movie will delight you; tickle your fancy.  It has some really great fighting scenes (you see some traditional martial arts styles like tiger/snake etc..); it tries to get into a story line but it's a good attempt at a hard sell.  Oh, don't tell me the main theme is revenge; let's avenge the family blood line.  The main idea of revenge is the same as every other martial arts movie but in full HD or Blueray so that adds to the excitement and the director shoots some different camera angles along with good post-production makes the quality top notch.  Some of the characters look quite demonic so if you have little kids who have nightmares;BEWARE. For martial arts fans rent it 7.5 out of 10 Says IGEM/Martial arts style.

Whiteout_starring Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale is one of those actors who always adds something to the roles she plays.  I think she kinda goes unmentioned amongst her peers as one of those great actors of our era because of the type of parts she's played.  Mark my words with the right role she will eventually end up with an Academy (who knows when).  It won't be for this role but she does what she does with every role, she totally owns it.  Come on how can you create a script that has a US Marshal investigating a murder in the Antartica and keep us interested,  well she does.  No sexy dresses, no high heels, nothing provocative just boots, sweaters and a very warm Parka (do we still call them Parkas, I'm dating myself wow).  She's a Marshall contemplating her next career move when suddenly she's thrown to the wolves with no way to escape except one plane ride out.  Does she miss the plane?

Gamer_On DVD_starring Gerard Butler

Surrogate, Gamer, Avatar; can you say all the same.  The concepts behind these movies are all the same human beings stepping into a real or manufactured body and running it on remote.  Here is the order according to rating Avatar (blows you away), Surrogate (has some good qualities) Gamer I saw this one last out of all the cyber hype and it should be last.  Not because the movie is so bad but because it was released on DVD during a time of cyber over run; can you say "Bad timing"  Gerard Butler(Spartaaaans!!!!!!)  did a good job but this movie can't compare to Avatar; which I have no choice comparing it too because of the concept.  So if your trying to get to see Avatar in IMAX (Canadian technology by the way yeah for Mississauga) and it's always sold out, and Surrogate isn'tt in your local DVD rental store get Gamer.  6.5 out of 10 says IGEM

The Invention of Lying_On DVD

This romantic comedy starring Ricky Gervais, Jennifer Garner, Johan Hill, Louis CK and Rob Lowe features a whole host of cameos just for the fun of it.  Here's whats up; the movie is set in a make believe world where lying hasn't been discovered yet.  Everyone is brutally honest about what their thinking so they say what they feel.  Then the unthinkable happens, one man discovers lying and it's unleashed in their make believe world.  This movie has some really funny scenes and really does leave you at the end of the movie with happy feel good feelings(can I say that?) Any ways if you like romantic comedys or the wife or girfriend is getting sick of all your action movies suprise her and pick up this movie spend an evening being girlified. 7.5 out of 10 says IGEM

When In Rome

This rom-com starring Josh Duhamel (Tranformer movies) and Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) just didn’t deliver the romance. Sarah plays Beth a career driven curator, discouraged by failed past loves. Her hope for love is restored by Nick, a sports writer she meets at her sisters wedding in Rome. Beth makes the mistake however, of removing some coins from a fountain of love. The men who threw the coins in the fountain each become obsessively in love with her and tenaciously pursue her.
Romantic comedies should make you leave the theatre with a “feel good” high. Not this time. I mainly felt disappointed because I really wanted to like this movie. I should have stayed home and eaten a box of chocolates, instead.

The Lovely Bones_Starring Mark Wahlberg

The Lovely Bones is an adaptation of the bestselling book by Alice Sebold. It is about the despair that overwhelms a family when their daughter is suddenly and tragically killed. Susie Salmon played by Saorise Ronan is the innocent victim; a young teen murdered by a disturbed predator. I have to say that this movie was visually fantastic and well acted by all the leads. My only complaint would be that the flow of the movie seemed a bit off.
